About Julia

Supporting farming and the environment

During my professional career, I have consistently advocated for England’s Uplands, regularly on Radio 4, regional TV and in the press. I have continuously supported farming communities, helping farmers to run thriving businesses, producing high quality products whilst also succesfully protecting biodiversity, the climate and our cultural heritage.

I have been a land agent for 25 years and have led a national charity with staff across England for the last decade. From 2014-2019, I was also on the Board of Natural England.

Since 2019, I have also been a Professor in Practice at the University of Cumbria where my focus is on developing skills and training opportunities.

My local community

I live in Armathwaite in the heart of the Eden Valley with my husband, Charles. Our two children are now at university.

I chaired our Village Nursery, have been a Girl Guider, was on the founding committee of Penrith & Eden Refugee Network and am active in my place of worship. I am also a Member of a secondary school Academy Trust and am a Trustee of a Care Farm employing seven people.

Charles is an academic who ran a software development company in Penrith for 17 years employing 30 people.
